“This book is has changed so many people’s lives.”
That was what my friend said, as she handed me the book The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle.
At the time, I was going through somewhat of a (read: massive) life crises. To soothe my pain and loneliness I turned to alcohol, trips, and parties. It was destructive, to say the least. But it was the only way I knew not to feel the discomfort, if only temporarily.
Reading that book transformed my life. Not externally at first, but internally. (A couple of months later, my external life would also change). I was blown away by the insights, powerful perspectives and new world it opened up to me.
Podcasts, videos, and audiobooks are all good mediums. But there is something special about holding and reading a physical book – especially one that can alter, elevate and improve your life. You can mark important chapters, underline sentences you like and then pass it onto someone else you care about.
Below, I’ve listed 8 books that have changed my life. Without them, I wouldn’t be the person I am today. It’s a mix of treats (from spiritual books to more scientific ones, so keep an open mind).
As you go through the list, notice which one(s) you feel drawn to read. Acknowledge that curiosity as a sign, a hint, from within on where to go next and what to explore.

By: Eckhart Tolle
This bestseller is a self-help guide to discover your true being, release pain and find inner peace. Tolle starts by sharing his story of how he went from feeling anxious and suicidal to experiencing a state of uninterrupted deep peace and bliss. He introduces us to enlightenment and what keeps us from it – the mind. If you haven’t read this book yet, make sure to read it. It’s a game-changer.
By: José Silva
The Silva Method is a self-help and meditation program developed by José Silva. In this book, Silva teaches us how to meditate and reach the Alpha state, which is the frequency that bridges the gap between our conscious thinking and subconscious mind. In that state, we can break destructive habits, undo negative patterns, and reach a greater level of success and satisfaction. It’s a practical guide on how to use your mind in a deeper and more effective level. When it comes to books that can change your life – this is for sure one of them!
By Michael A. Singer
This is the story of what can happen when you just let go. Singer decided to live alone in the middle of the woods and to let life unfold, without him interfering or trying to control its direction. What happened? He became a New York Times bestseller, an Oprah favorite and he runs a thriving spiritual community on over six hundred acres in Florida. Singer also created a software company that transformed the medical practice management industry and he became the founding CEO of a billion-dollar public company. It’s a story that can help you trust in life – if you only let it.
By Marianne Williamson
This book is like tiramisu for the soul. Williamson shares her reflections on A Course In Miracles and how the answer to our problems isn’t to ask for something to change outside of us – but for something to change inside of us. She shares stories of how miracles occur (in areas like relationships, career, and health) when we shift into love. She also demonstrates how you can attain inner peace when you turn from a thought system based on fear to one based on love. And we love love, right?
By Esther and Jerry Hicks
This book is one of my favorites and it presents the teachings of the non-physical entity Abraham. Yep, this book is “channeled”. (Told you to keep an open mind!) The material from Abraham is the original inspiration for the bestseller “The Secret”, which talks about the law of attraction. If you’re looking for guidance on how to manifest your desires, this book will reveal powerful stuff to you.
By Amir Levine
I just had to include a book about adult attachment. Because this is what keeps so many people from finding and sustaining love. The book explains scientifically why some people seem to navigate relationships effortlessly, while others struggle. If you read and apply this, your life will change for the better – I know mine did, once I understood adult attachment. (I haven’t read this specific book by Levine, but I’ve read a similar one in Swedish. This one has 4.7 out of 5 in ratings from over 1000 people, so it should be terrific and well worth your time.)
By: Michael Newton
This book might be a little “out there” for some people. (If you’re intrigued by the mysterious, then keep reading). Dr. Michael Newton, a hypnotherapist, uncovers what happens in the spirit world after death on earth. Through deep hypnosis, his clients reveal what it’s like to die, who meets us after death, what the spirit world is really like, and why we choose to come back as a certain person. This book not only made me laugh several times, but it also helped me not to fear death. (Because strangely as it might seem, life after death in this book sounds like a playground in paradise!)
By: Dale Carnegie
This classic by Dale Carnegie has sold over 15 million copies. It is as rock-solid today as it was in 1937 when it was first published. It teaches the importance of staying in control of your behavior and to act in a way of service to others. Carnegie’s advice is simple and powerful. If you’re looking for ways to improve your business and personal relationships, then this book is a must-read!
